You surely have seen the Adopt-A-Highways signs while driving on state and local roads. Local organizations and companies will “adopt” a one-mile stretch of roadway and perform a highway clean up service project a few times per year. Recently POL tagged along with a group of volunteers and noted that Gatorade bottles are Lancaster County’s favorite urine receptacle, surpassing the traditional plastic gallon milk jug.
Local volunteer Abe Shrapnel is a highway cleanup expert as he volunteers with three separate organizations that perform the service at different locations in Central PA. “Yup. If you see a Gatorade bottle with some Gatorade left in it, it probably isn’t Gatorade” advised Abe.
