DIY Friday: Crock-Pot Wine

LITITZ, PA – Area Moms have found a new way to save money and have fun – making their own Crock-Pot Wine.

Making wine at home has been around since the beginning of time but it has often been regarded as time-consuming, messy, and tedious. But one area mom discovered a way to make tasty wines without the mess and wait for that perfect glass of wine.

She makes her own Crock-Pot Wine.

“I make stuff in my Crock-Pot all the time and and thought, ‘why not wine’?” explained Jen Ward.

It was so easy that Ward shared it with a few of her closest friends and the fad has grown all over Lancaster County.

“I cannot believe how easy it is. You start it in the morning and have wine ready for dinner.” said Ward’s friend Brenda Lockhart.

Ward shared her wine making recipe with and we have posted it below.

Crock-Pot Wine Recipe

1 1/2 lbs Grapes (white grapes for white wine and purple grapes for red wine)
1 Cup of Sugar
0.25 Ounce Packet of Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast
1/4 Cup of Water

Mix the ingredients in the Crock-Pot and slow cook on Low.
Cooking Time: 6 hours for sweet wine and 8 hours for a dry wine.
Chill to room temperature or refrigerate and serve.
